It’s quite sad looking back on my life and realising that the common theme was low self worth and self esteem. I’ve talked about it in previous posts but delving into creativity has pushed me to confront a lot of self deprecating thoughts and behaviors. I have had to relearn how to do things a particular way so I don’t self sabotage myself.

One of the ways that has really helped me is the quote by Will Smith where he says.

“Every single day, no matter where you are going or what you’re going through, there is always another brick sitting right there in front of you, waiting to be laid. The only question: Are you going to get up and lay it?” So this week, everybody, just take things brick by brick

I have a lot of negative self talk and can procrastinate not doing anything because everything becomes overwhelming. And I do not believe in myself. Self belief, self esteem and self worth are what I am working on for myself so taking things day by day however small has really helped me.

I have seen results in my progress and I don’t strive for perfection, I see my creative projects as progress and evolution. I have seen as lot of my projects evolve over time and later ones being influenced by prior projects, all because I carried on and didn’t give up at the first hurdle; as I would have done before. By keeping on going every day no matter how big or small my progress is that day (or every other day), laying it all brick by brick is making a huge difference in progress as well as sense of accomplishment, which in turn is boosting my self esteem.

So don’t give up in the first sight of being overwhelmed by what you want to achieve, take it day by day or week by week and don’t put so much pressure on yourself that everything has be perfect.
